Original Oil Painting
One-of-a-kind original oil painting by Adrianne Tamar Arachne.
Karhu is an original 16"x20" oil painting created by Adrianne on sealed birch wood panel, framed in walnut wood, and has a hanging wire installed for immediate display.
Adrianne painted Karhu as a result of an unexpected interaction with a bear in Colorado this summer that caused her to think more deeply about the relationship between creatures and their environment.
Adrianne says: "The bear is, in many ways, born to be hungry. I feel the bear is teaching me that hunger isn't inherently selfish: it's actually a part of the cycle of nourishment for all life. In the case of the bear, he eats, then creates waste, and that waste holds both fertilizer and seeds that diversify the natural ecology around him.
That is the difference between hunger and greed: hunger is something that gives back even as it goes after what it wants, whereas greed is the disruption of that natural reciprocity. I've been meditating on the difference between those two things while working on this painting."
