Inspired by a winter artist residency in a Norwegian forest, Northern Wolf was painted as an expression of love and respect for the creatures of the woods during the quietest and coldest time of the year. Adrianne has long loved Norway, and spending winter there in the solitude of a cabin in the woods brought her into harmony with the rhythms of the local wildlife and nature there.
Adrianne says: "Wolves are one of many creatures that call the great north home. And they are one of many creatures in this ecosystem that remind us of how important the interconnection between nature and animals is. I was deeply conscious of the rhythms of the sky, the earth, the wolves, and the forest in Norway. All else faded away. And I wanted to evoke that feeling in this painting."
