Adrianne painted “Connection” as one of ten pieces in a series of paintings called The Human Nature Collection. The Human Nature Collection explores parts of what Adrianne calls “the experiential human wilderness”: parts of our inner experience that we go through as we move through life’s landscape.
Adrianne painted “Connection” as an expression of how she perceives the inner wilderness of a relationship between two beings. Some days, it is close, regulated, and intimate. Other days, everything spirals into conflicts and flames. And yet, still, the wilderness can carry us back into repair with each other, restoring our intimacy yet again. The figures are painted as something like “tree people” because Adrianne wanted to use the symbol of something that takes a very long time to grow.. requiring many, many cycles through all forms of weather and environmental circumstance.
This felt true to her experience of how humans require time to learn about each other in relationship, and grow together through cycles. A copy of the “Connection” poem, originally conceived by Adrianne alongside the painting, comes with every print.
