Frequently Asked Questions
Did you draw/paint that?
Sure did!
Can I commission you?
Commissions are currently closed.
(But sign up on my mailing list for updates, and keep an eye on my shamanic spirit portrait package!)
I am intermittently available for commissions throughout the year. If you are wanting to hire me for a commission, feel free to send me an inquiry through my contact page. If your idea is congruent with my general subject matter and I’ve got space on the schedule, I’ll work with you to negotiate a rate.
Will you design my tarot/oracle deck?
I will always take an aligned and well-planned project into consideration.
Can I sell the Last Unicorn Tarot Deck at my store of magical paraphernalia?
You’re gonna wanna talk to Geekify about that. Unfortunately, I can’t offer that option personally.
How do you get the “glowy” effect in your paintings?
I get asked this question more frequently than anything else. The practical answer is mostly based on good color theory/value logic.. building up contrast between lights and darks in fluid gradient layers on an effective composition. But if I’m being honest, I also just can’t quite explain the magic of how it works.
What is your painting studio set-up?
I paint primarily with oil paints. And I use as natural solvent methods as I possibly can. Which means that I mostly stick to simply linseed oil and natural turpentine. I also always, always paint with nitrile gloves on to avoid as much skin absorption of the paints and solvents as possible. I have a few different sizes of easels, both natural and artificial light, and shift around my studio as needed.
What is your digital art set-up?
I’ve mostly used a cintiq tablet with Photoshop on an imac desktop in the past. This past year, I’ve upgraded to procreate on an ipad. I don’t veer too much from stock brush options, either. Although occasionally I find weird ways of incorporating textures.
How do you get the inspiration for your pieces?
The world around me is constantly inspiring me. Especially nature, animals, and the beauty of the human spirit. Symbols, themes, and archetypes often weave themselves with natural beauty inside my imagination. And I suppose that’s where the spark begins.
How long does it take you to finish a piece?
It varies. For my personal works, Some of my smaller pieces are completed in a day, whereas development for some of my pieces has gone on as long as 4 years. It definitely depends on size, subject matter, and composition.
Would you teach a class/workshop/retreat?
Not at the moment! But I often upload process content and Timelapse videos to my Patreon.
